The Ethereum Foundation has announced a new $50 million grant program focused on advancing privacy-preserving smart contract technology. The initiative will fund research and development of zero-knowledge proof applications, encrypted computation methods, and privacy-enhancing tools for decentralized applications.

The grant program is structured in three tiers, supporting projects from early-stage research through production deployment. Priority areas include private voting systems, confidential DeFi transactions, and identity solutions that allow users to prove credentials without revealing personal information.

Privacy has been a growing concern in the Ethereum ecosystem as regulatory scrutiny increases and users become more aware of the transparency of public blockchains. The Foundation says the grants aim to balance the need for regulatory compliance with fundamental user privacy rights, a challenge that has become increasingly relevant as blockchain adoption expands into mainstream applications.
