Ethereum's Layer 2 scaling networks collectively processed over 15 million transactions in a single day this week, setting a new record for the ecosystem. Arbitrum and Base led the surge, accounting for roughly 60 percent of the total volume as decentralized applications continue migrating to lower-cost execution environments.
The milestone highlights the success of Ethereum's rollup-centric scaling roadmap, which aims to push transaction execution off the main chain while maintaining security guarantees. Average transaction fees on major Layer 2 networks remained below two cents, compared to several dollars on the Ethereum mainnet.
Developers say the growth is being driven by a wave of new applications in gaming, social media, and decentralized finance that require high throughput and low latency. The Ethereum Foundation has indicated that further protocol upgrades planned for late 2026 will continue to reduce costs for rollup operators.
